Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The guidelines for submission are given below:

  • Thematic papers or articles based on research work in social work and social science subjects are welcome. 
  • Manuscripts should be in English and typed in MS-Word with double line spacing with one-inch margin on all sides and should be sent to journal@mssw.in 
  • The first page of the article is the cover page. The Cover page of the article should include the title of the article (in not more than 12 words), the author (s)’ name (s) and the identification details of the authors – Designation, Institution, Postal Address and Contact Phone Number and Email of corresponding author. It should also contain the Declaration by the author (s) that the paper is original and that it has neither been accepted for publication/published elsewhere and nor has been submitted for consideration for publication in any other journal. 
  • The second page of the article should commence with the title, and present the abstract, keywords and main text. The author’s name or any other identification details should not appear anywhere else in the manuscript. 
  • The length of the article should be between 3500 - 5000 words. Each article should have an abstract of 200 words maximum. The manuscript should be well proof-read. 
  • References for both printed and electronic sources should be given at the end of the article. References should be in APA (American Psychological Association) format or the IJSW (Indian Journal of Social Work) format. 
  • Copyrighted material should be used with appropriate permission. Once published, the copyright of the article is vested with the Madras School of Social Work. 
  • The editorial board reserves the right to accept or reject or request for modifications and resubmission of the manuscript sent in for publication. The manuscripts will be subject to double-blind peer-review.

Review Process and Timelines….. 

  • The manuscript will undergo the pre-review process, if required. 
  • After the pre-review, it will be sent to two reviewers as the first round of review. 
  • After the first round of review, consolidated suggestions from both the reviewers will be communicated to the author/s within two months. 
  • Author/s has/have to resubmit the paper after incorporating the suggestions in a month’s time. 
  • Revised paper will be sent to the reviewers for the confirmation as the second round of review. 
  • During the second round of review, if the paper is found with much scope for improvement, one more revision will be suggested as the final round of review. 
  • After the second review, if recommended for publication by the reviewers, the paper will be accepted for publication provided the article passes the plagiarism check.
